Update for Mid-2013 MacBook Air and 2014- MacBook Pro Camera Compatibility

We have updated our backwards-compatibility Mac webcam driver to version 1.0.7. This free download (.prefsPane) provides camera functionality backward to QuickTime(tm) applications, such as those products of ours (pOpOp, DotMatrix & CamCamX2) which are available in the Mac App Store and for download on our website.

This handy helper also allows our sandboxed Mac App Store apps to interoperate with VirtualEyez.
NOTE: This driver is specific to b-l-a-ck-o-p apps. If you need a general solution for using modern FaceTime HD cameras with older QuickTime(tm) applications, please try the free version of VirtualEyez.

Direct download link to BLKOPQKAM_esd.dmg.

Recommended for all users of pOpOp and DotMatrix from the Mac App Store.

It's good to be FREE

Thanks for all the downloads Mac App Store! DotMatrix FREE cruised into the top 100 free apps yesterday and we want to make sure you know that we also offer a free version that runs on PowerPC Macs with Leopard. If you're really into vintage Macs you might find a way to download a version that runs on Tiger. Because we're that kind of Mac App joint.

We also have some apps for sale by owner in the store.

We don't exactly keep count, but our estimate is that DotMatrix FREE has been downloaded over 500,000 times in the past 5 years.

DotMatrix -> Mac App Store

It seems like only yesterday that we were dusting off the Grande Soy Latte and hunkering down to pound out a few hundred thousand lines of Cocoa and C+- (C more or less) code. But it was 5 years ago and there was no Mac App Store back then. DotMatrix FREE now in the Mac App Store.

Check it Out!

OK, so we released this new product recently, VirtualEyez, that, upon first glance, looks like it might only be useful to weathermen and Rachel Maddow. I know, right? But, as it turns out, it can be quite useful for making art with DotMatrix. Many of the DotMatrix art templates rely implicitly on the presence of noise in the frame around the subject.

But after experimenting with VirtualEyez for afew days here in the lab, it has become clear that cleaning up the incoming camera image with a greenscreen matte (or even a Luma-key) and then blending the image with a solid color background (or even a background photo) can result in some majorly cool new looks for DotMatrix art templates that you have already grown to love. The best part about it is that it all runs in real time! And baby, you have to believe me when I say we have only just begun!

Check it out. If you're a registered user of DotMatrix and you need a license for VirtualEyez, toss us an email and we'll comp you one. DotMatrix is like, the child that only a mother could love. So we dote on her. 'Nuff said.

Direct to Youtube through DotMatrix Effects

Using the standard edition of DotMatrix, it is possible to record the output from DotMatrix directly into a new Youtube video upload. We just tested it.

This functionality should work with all our camera-driver apps: GrabberRaster, DotMatrix, CamCamX and Q@mera.
